Overview

Quince is an Ancient fruit, mostly found in a Roman cooking. Quince grows on the small trees and it is closely related to apples and pears. It is one of the nutritious fruit. When Quince in raw form it tastes slightly sour and inedible. But when we cook it tastes good that's why it is perfect ingredient for cooking. Quince appears in a pear shaped and bright golden-yellow color. Its botanical name is Cydonia Oblonga.

Initially cultivation of quince began in Mesopotamia, present it is Northern Iraq between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. And it was cultivated by the Greeks. The other names for the Quince are coines, coing, Cydonian apple, elephant apple, maja pahit, ma-tum, pineapple quince, quitte, and vilvam.

Quince is used to prepare the various dishes. Cotignac is a gel which is prepared by boiling quince juice and sugar, and it is set into the small wooden boxes to form confections. It is normally presented to the French royalty in honor of their visit to the cities and outlying villages. This gel is still available in some areas of the France, in Spain and Middle East it is known by the other names.

Origin
